Legal Requirement Under the Road
Traffic Act, you have to be at least 18 years of age
before you can ride a motorcycle.
Pass The Basic Theory Test (BTT) Before you can apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) to learn to ride a motorcycle, you must first pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT). This test is designed to test your knowledge of the rules and regulations of the road, the traffic signs and signals. Upon passing the BTT, you can apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) which will allow you to practise riding in the driving circuit and on the public roads under the supervision of a driving school instructor.
How to book for Basic Theory Test (BTT) :

The first step towards passing the BTT is to understand the contents under the syllabus of the Basic Theory of Driving. A copy of the official handbook on the Basic Theory of Driving can be purchased from the following locations or major bookshops :

Apply For
Provisional Driving Licence (PDL)
- Prior to your obtaining the PDL,
you will need to take and pass an eyesight test.
- To apply for a PDL, you need to
go to one of the 3 test centres stated above.
- The validity period for a
PDL and fee is as follow :
- Validity period for 6 months.
- The fee payable for the grant
or renewal of a PDL is $25.00.
- The PDL can be renewed at any
Post Office, for a renewal fee of S$25.00.

You are required to enrol as a student in an authorised driving centre. This is unlike learning to drive a motorcar where an individual can choose to learn from a private instructor or from a driving centre.

Pass The Riding Theory Test
(RTT) The Riding Theory Test (RTT) is designed
to test a candidate's knowledge on the rules and
regulations of the road, the traffic signs and signals.
Upon passing the RTT, you can apply for a Provisional
Driving Licence (PDL) which will allow you to learn
riding a motorcycle on the public roads.
How to
apply for Riding Theory Test (RTT) : Unlike Basic
and Final Theory of Driving Tests where individuals can
book and sit for the test without enrolling as a student
in any of the three driving schools, you can only apply
and sit for the Riding Theory Test (RTT) only if you
satisfy the following conditions :
- You must be a student with one of
the Driving Schools as stated above.
- You must have attended the
prescribed theory lessons of the respective driving
school and have passed the evaluation test of the
above driving schools.
- You must have passed the Part 1
Training Course (Circuit Assessment Test) conducted by
the driving centre.

Practical Riding Lessons Upon passing the
Riding Theory Test (RTT) and having obtained the
Provisional Driving Licence (PDL), you will be given the
necessary training by your driving to learn riding a
motorcycle on public roads.
You must always have a
qualified driving instructor guiding you when you are
learning how to ride on a public road. The motorcycle
you are learning in should display two 18cm square 'L'
plates, in a conspicuous position on both the front and
back of your motorcycle as well as be insured against
third-party risk and riding tuition.
You will have to pass
the Riding Assessment Tst conducted by your driving
school before you are allowed to take the Practical
Riding Test (PRT) for Class 2B.

Pass The Practical Riding Test (PRT)
Upon passing the Riding Theory Test (RTT) and
the Riding Assessment Test conducted by the driving
school, you can then apply for the Practical Riding Test
(PRT). There is no quota on the number of passes for the
PRT. You need to be able to ride safely and competently
in order to pass the PRT.
Upon passing the PRT,
you will then be issued with a probationer Class 2B
Qualified Licence which allows you to ride a motorcycle
of engine capacity not exceeding 200cc.
